The Commencement Ceremony was held on Tuesday September 3, 2002 at the Imperial Theatre, King Square, Saint John. Students paraded to the Theatre from their busses grouped according to their faculties. The faculty and guests followed in full regalia, which is always a very moving and colourful moment during the formal ceremonies of the Academic Community. The speakers included: Mayor Shirley McAlary Dr. Robin Humphries, Dr. Richard Papenhausen, Dr. John McLaughlin, and Dr. Kate Frego. Students received their commencement pins symbolizing the beginning of their university careers. Wendy Coughlin, OPTAMUS Past President was honoured to be included with the Platform Party and to award the pin to one of the students. At the end of the formal ceremonies, the Platform Party led the parade of faculty and students down King Street. The students of UNBSJ and residents of Saint John got into the spirit of things by cheering for their University. Once again, the colourful regalia of the professors, a sight the average citizen does not see often, made the whole show a Kodak moment.
