Volunteer Recognition

s with any community organization, the life-blood of the Saint John Free-Net rests in the those dedicated individuals who donate time, creativity, sweat and dollars to the collective effort. This column is dedicated to the recognition of those great efforts by volunteers who ARE the Saint John Free-Net.

    The whole process of the Free-Net began over two years ago when a group of computer aficionados got together in each others home to hold monthly "geek-nights". From these sessions of "geeks" (our self-description) gathering to talk about ram prices, hard disk crashes, the DOS vs. Windows vs. UNIX debate, and general good natured ribbing, grew the first glimmer of an idea that our community should have a Community Information Network of it’s own: a Free-Net.

    Eventually, the Free-Net concept grew beyond the "geek-night" sessions and was picked by others in our community (who may be "geeky" in other ways). A lot of water has passed under the bridge since those original sessions, but the seed of an idea, planted over two years ago, is finally beginning to bear fruit: the Saint John Free-Net is On-line!

    Some of the original participants in these gatherings are still with us today in the Free-Net, others have moved on, but still keep a "keen eye" on our activities. We at the Saint John Free-Net would like to thank those who participated in the original "geek-night" sessions and who started the ball rolling over two years ago. Without your foresight and community spirit wouldn’t be where we are today. Thanks guys, it was really fun.

Membership

s the saying goes "membership does have it’s privileges," and the Saint John Free-Net wants you to "Join-Up" to help us make "Public Access" a reality in our community. As a Non-Profit organization, SJFN needs you and your organization to become a full member of the Free-Net. Membership not only provides more services and advantages for you, but your participation will greatly assist us in our efforts to ensure sustainability for our Community Information Network.

    We have constructed three levels of membership just right for YOU!

Individual Membership
$ 25.00/year (inclusive GST, PST)
- you could pay 3 monthly installments of $ 10.00/month
Installment Total = $30.00/year (inclusive GST, PST)

$180.00/year (inclusive GST, PST)
- you could pay monthly installments $16.25/month
- you could pay quarterly installments $65.00/quarter
Installment Total = $195.00/year (inclusive GST, PST)

Non-Profit Membership Benefits:

Commercial Membership
$ 240.00/year (inclusive GST, PST)
- you could pay monthly installments $ 22.00/month
- you could pay quarterly installments $ 88.00/quarter
