W ithout the support of the following organizations, the Saint John Free-Net would not be able to work towards it's mission of "Public Access," for individuals and non-profit groups in our community.

The Saint John Free-Net would like to publicly thank these "far-sighted" community minded organizations, for their continuing support and guidance.

The Family Resource Centre (S.J.) Inc.

[Family Resource Center logo]     One of the major objectives of the Saint John Free-Net (SJFN) is to provide Non-Profit organizations a "virtual" home for information regarding their group. All community Non-Profit groups will be provided a "basic" page (see our on-line registration form) that will contain information regarding contact, location, hours of operation, mission statement, and an overview of activities of that particular organization. Those Non-Profits who decide to become a Member of SJFN will be able to establish a website of 3 more pages (max. of 720k total) that can contain more detailed descriptions on activities and issues relating to that particular group. Member organizations can add graphics, sound, animation, counters, on-line forms, newsletters, brochures, and reports to their website to improve their communication to the general public.

One of our first members is the family Recource Center. The Family Resource centre was in 1985 a community organization formed in Saint John to assist "teen moms" in adapting to the challenges of young parenthood, continuing education, self-esteem, skill development et al. This organization soon expanded to assisting single parent families, and since the fall of 1994, has evolved into a resource centre available to all expectant parents and caregivers of children... the Family Resource Centre (S.J.) Inc.

Believing strongly in the African proverb: "It takes a village to raise a child.", the Family Resource Centre (FRCSJ) strives to provide a supportive environment to families in our community. FRCSJ is a place to help families find the information, support and resources they seek. Many programs and services are available through the Centre: building self-esteem courses; personal growth courses; wellness workshops; family drop-in sessions; parenting courses and workshops; young mothers support groups; toy and book lending library; prenatal classes for teens; crafts; and more! The Centre works with people from a vast cross-section of our community and provides a most valuable service.

The Saint John Free-Net will seek to extend the Family Resource Centre’s community reach, by developing FRCSJ as a "model user" of the services that the Saint John Free-Net can offer. Working with staff and volunteers of both organizations, SJFN will assist the Family Resource Centre in establishing an enhanced "web presence" on the Free-Net. FRCSJ’s quarterly newsletter, "the Root of the Matter", along with other reports and brochures, will be available on-line in a "digital" format. Also, program schedules, up-to-date news items, fundraising campaigns, parenting tips and a parenting web conference will also be available to the community through the Free-Net.

As the Family Resource Centre more effectively uses the Internet as a resource and communication tool we hope that this "showcasing" will be a catalyst for both groups. This "model user" example serves as SJFN’s "virtual" portfolio for other organizations, who may be thinking about getting "on-line" with their information.

Keep an eye on our Community Hall section and see how the Family Resource Centre’s web presence develops (http://www.sjfn.nb.ca/).
