  • Biographical Information

    Doug's Amusements Ltd.
    Technical Manager, since 1991

My duties at Doug's Amusements involve the care and maintenance of over 100 Video Lottery Terminals under the New Brunswick Video Lottery Program, as well as the usual management duties. I am also responsable for installing and designing software and computer systems for our operation. I am also a member of the Technical Committee for the New Brunswick Coin Machine Operators Association (NBCMOA). Doug's Amusements is the most technically advanced Video Lottery Operator in the province. We have one of the most detailed database systems for maintaining statistics and sales figures as well as being the only company to use portable (Palmtop) computers and printers to generate customer receipts on site.

    Telav Audio Visual
    Branch Manager, 1985-1990

Responsible for the operation and installation of Audio/Visual equipment for Trade Shows and Conventions etc. as well as setup and operation of Simultaneous Translation equipment. Telav is a Canadian company that was created on the premise that quality service and quality equipment are offered long before it is demanded. My largest project while at Telav was providing the video projection and audio for the Saint John Chess Festival.

  • Personal Interests

    Audio Visual Systems
I was introduced to PA systems in high school. Since then, I have been intrigued by the challenge of ensuring that any message is presented as clear and understandable as technically possible.(Content not included.) I dedicated most of my talents in this area to providing technical support for some local churches in setting up and operating their sound systems. I've also spent some time volunteering for Fundy Cable doing Audio Production.
    Photography
Photography is a way to capture the world and freeze those fleeting moments that would otherwise be gone forever. I enjoy photographing family moments and the outdoors. I've also been the photographer at several weddings and special occasions. I'm usually requested to bring my still as well as video camera but I prefer the locking of time achieved with the photograph.
    Computer Technology
My interest in electronics started at an early age, about three when I stuck my finger in an outlet and was so intrigued by it that I went back to investigate some more. Digital Electronics was my strong point in school which led to computers. I am by no means an expert, although many feel I am. I have simply remembered from my mistakes and have enough understanding of what I consider the basics to get most basic users out of trouble, and me in. I also learned at an early age to READ THE INSTRUCTIONS. I've developed the databases we use at work as well as the company profiles and brochures. I'm currently volunteer for the newsletter for the Saint John Free Net.

  • Video Lottery Tips

The one question I get most while servicing Video Lottery Terminals is " Can you set it so I can win?"
My usual answer is, "If I could do that I wouldn't be here on a Saturday night at 11:00pm" That doesn't help you but after a long day it's the best I will offer.

These are my usual tips on playing Video Lottery Terminals

    1. Don't play.
    2. Set your budget and stick to it.
    3. Read the pay tables and select bets that offer the best return.
    4. If you are ahead, quit.
    5. Remember, the terminals are designed to make money for the owners, not the players.
