Description of Services

Founded in 1992, The Saint John Writers' Group provides creative writers from Saint John and the surrounding area with a site for both professional development and social interaction. The Group affords writers with an environment suitable for:
1) the sharing of written work,
2) the obtainment of constructive criticism and encouragement, and
3) the exchange of writing-related information.

At Group meetings writers share their thoughts, their concerns, and of course, their written work. A significant part of the meetings is spent listening to readings of bits of published and not yet published prose, poetry, and drama. Members normally attend and share their work because they realize that the membership possesses a wealth of knowledge and practical experience. The audience of writers gathered provides valuable feedback relative to works. Everyone benefits from this free exchange of opinions and suggestions. Members come away with fresh ideas for their works and new insights into their writing.

Saint John writers also leave with another important commodity: information. Time is set aside at each meeting for members to share the latest marketing tips, strategies, news, and views. Writers regularly exchange information regarding the latest markets, competitions, and other writing-related opportunities. This exchange of information has proven to be one of the group's most valuable assets. Many members have broken into print and achieved success as a direct result of this exchange.

The Saint John Writers' Group caters to published and unpublished writers working in virtually every genre. Our members participate in the full spectrum of writing and writing-related activities. They produce and fine tune their creations, submit them for publication and production, enter contests, investigate new markets, apply for grants, and teach writing courses. These activities have resulted in numerous publications and productions; the winning of numerous prizes, grants, and awards; and the education of many new and developing writers.

Members in the The Saint John Writers' Group is free and new faces are always welcome. It doesn't matter whether you're published or unpublished. Whether you write for money, peace of mind, or artistic pursuits, or just want to listen to listen to some writing, we look forward to seeing you.

Everyone who loves to read or write is always welcome or you can just sit in and listen. We are affiliated with the Writers Federation of N.B. and try to spons or a public reading at our local library at least once during the year.
